Vigilance Bureau nabs Sub Inspector for taking bribe Rs 50,000
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Thursday, arrested a police Sub Inspector (SI), Baljitpal Singh, posted at police station Mour, Bathinda district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused SI has been arrested for accepting this bribe money in two instalments from complaint Rakesh Kumar, resident of Partap Nagar, Bathinda city.
Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 50,000 as a bribe and threatening to nominate him in a police complaint case which he was investigating. Besides, the accused police personnel has already taken Rs 20,000 from complainant in the morning and demanding more money. The complainant has recorded the conversation as a proof while giving him this bribe amount and falsely saying the accused to pay the remaining amount in the evening.
He further informed that the accused police official was under transfer and has to join at some other police station but threatening the complainant to book him and his relatives in the police case if the bribe amount was not paid.
The spokesperson added that the VB has investigated the allegations and laid a trap. The above said accused police official was nabbed red handed for accepting second instalment of bribe of Rs 30,000 in the presence of two official witnesses. The Bureau team has recovered Rs 50,000 from his possession which he has received as a bribe. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned police official at VB police station Bathinda. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
