Fresh survey of Jagadhari-Paonta Sahib new railway line to be conducted
A fresh survey of Jagadhari-Paonta Sahib new railway line would be conducted with a focus on freight expected from industrial area Paonta Sahib and study would be conducted by RDSO to examine if the Kalka-Shimla track could be strengthened to improve the speed of the trains plying on this track. This was decided in a meeting held here today between the Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
Union Railways Minister said that a budget allocation of Rs. 770 crore has been made for infrastructure projects and safety works in the State in the budget for the year 2021-22. He said that this was 613 percent more than the average allocation during the period 2009-2014.
Chief Minister said that Coaches of Kalka-Shimla Railway should be designed and manufactured to enhance the tourism experience. He also urged the Union Railways Minister to provide vista dome type coaches so that the tourists could get a panoramic view of the beautiful valleys along the route.
Jai Ram Thakur said that steps must also be taken to expedite work on Bhanupalli-Beri and Chandigarh railway lines. He thanked the Union Minister for allocating Rs. 405 crore for Bhanupalli-Beri railway line and Rs. 200 crore for Chandigarh-Baddi Railway line. He said that the Chandigarh-Baddi railway line would go a long way in giving boost to industrial activities as the industrialists would be able to easily transport raw material as well as manufactured products in various destinations.
MP and State BJP President Suresh Kashyap, Chief Secretary Anil Khachi, Additional Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh, Additional Chief Secretary J.C. Sharma, Principal Secretary K.K. Pant, senior officers of Railways also attended the meeting.
