Chandigarh, April 27

Expressing solidarity with Sub Inspector Harjeet Singh for bravery in line with his duty, Punjab Police led by Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta today placed the name of Harjeet Singh on the nameplates for the whole day. Mr Gupta also launched a special campaign in hashtag of #MainBhiHarjeetSingh on social media platforms to highlight his bravery in the time of adversity and expressed solidarity with all doctors, health workers, all civil officers/officials during the fight with COVID-19. Disclosing this, Dinkar Gupta said SI Harjeet Singh has emerged as a symbol of nation’s fight against COVID-19. “This battle is being led by frontline policemen and healthcare professionals but unfortunately some of them are being attacked by people in many places across the country”, adding he said when Harjeet’s hand was chopped off at Patiala during an attack by Nihangs, he symbolized the top attributes of a good cop while remained calm and shown exemplary courage in the face of fire. He further added that he has changed name on his nameplate to ‘Harjeet Singh’ for the whole day and requested everyone to join this campaign to encourage all the frontline warriors fighting against COVID-19 in different parts of the country. Mr Gupta informed that he has also written several state police heads to show solidarity with all police personnel, health professionals and other officials working untiringly to save the lives of people.
