CAPT. AMARINDER MOURNS DEATH OF ACP ANIL KOHLI & KANUGO GURMEL SINGH DUE TO COVID-19

 ANNOUNCES RS. 50 LAKH EX-GRATIA FOR NEXT OF KIN OF BOTH THE CORONA WARRIORS

 Chandigarh,  April 18

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today condoled the demise of ACP North Ludhiana Anil Kohli and Kanungo Gurmel Singh, both of whom had fallen victim to the COVID-19. The Chief Minister announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of both the officials, and also said a similar amount will be paid to the family of any officer who dies in the line of duty due to the Coronavirus.

        “Deeply saddened to lose two of my officials to #Covid19. Have decided to pay Rs 50 lakhs ex-gratia to their next to kin. While I pray such an incident shouldn’t happen, but if it does, State Govt will pay Rs. 50 lakhs to NoK of officials who die in line of duty due to #Covid19,” he tweeted. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister remembered the ACP as a courageous officer, who always discharged his duties with utmost dedication, sincerity and professional commitment. Recalling his outstanding services in the Punjab police force, Capt. Amarinder said Kohli would remain an inspiration for the young officers in uniform. The ACP breathed his last this afternoon in DMC Ludhiana due to Covid-19. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

        Meanwhile, in a tweet @capt_amarinder Capt. Amarinder said,” Sad to share that we had lost Gurmel Singh Kanungo yesterday and ACP Anil Kohli in Ludhiana to # Covid-19 today. In this moment of crisis, losing our Corona Warriors is a big loss for the state. I join their families in this time of grief. Rest assured Punjab will stand by them. “Sharing his heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family of ACP Kohli, DGP Dinkar Gupta said that with the passing away of ACP Anil Kohli, the Punjab Police had lost a courageous and dynamic officer.

        According to family sources, Kohli was cremated by his son Paras Kohli with full State honours at the Gas Crematorium in Ludhiana. His cremation was attended by Police Commissioner Ludhiana Rakesh Agarwal, besides Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu and many other elected representatives and dignitaries from Ludhiana. Born and brought up at Jalandhar, Anil Kohli 38/PR, after completing BA in the year 1989, had joined Punjab Police as Assistant Sub Inspector on February 19, 1990 in district Patiala, when terrorism was at its peak. He completed his basic training at Punjab Police Academy Phillaur during 1990-91.

       During his initial service career, he fought valiantly against terrorism and later on, after being promoted as Sub Inspector and Inspector, served as Station House Officer in several prominent Police Stations across the state. Kohli had an unblemished police career of over 30 years, during which he earned many Commendation Certificates on account of his hard work and zeal. He was promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police on April 29, 2016, and served as DSP in district Khanna, Ferozepur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana City.
