The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) and National cum Entrance Test (NEET) examinations were scheduled to be conducted in September 2020, but due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, the aspirants were seeking to postpone these exams to safeguard their health. The Supreme Court neglected the plead of the aspirants to hold these exams till a later date is decided since the National testing Agency (NTA) assured the government that all safety precautions and measures will be abided in view of the pandemic. The court also stated that the delay of these major exams by keeping them at a halt because of the pandemic will put the career of the students in peril.
The pleading of the aspirants to postpone the exams was rejected since the Supreme Court jury stated, “whether the students were ready to waste a complete year of their life? Also, life cannot remain at a halt”. Therefore, under the guidance of the NTA and orders and guidelines from the Solicitor General, all safety precautions will be taken before conducting these examinations. It is for the benefit of society only, that we should continue our lives by moving forward with taking all the safeguarding measures into consideration.
The petition was filed with the digital signatures of students belonging to eleven different states, who requested the Supreme Court to direct the central government and NTA to hold the JEE Main and NEET exams till normalcy is restored across the nation. The National Testing Agency will release the admit card for both the exams in the third week of August and as per the trailing announcement on July 3 by the NTA JEE Main will be held from September 1 to 6, whereas the NEET-UG examination will be conducted on September 13.
