Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday has arrested Pawan Kumar Sharma resident of Panchkula, a coloniser, for helping the former Executive Officer (EO) of the Zirakpur Municipal Council in case of amassing disproportionate assets.
Revealing this here today, an official spokesperson of VB said that Pawan Kumar Sharma had helped the Girish in getting illicit enrichment by selling an Open Plinth (storage godown) situated on 5 acres of land at Village Khudal Kalan, Tehsil Bareta, District Mansa having capacity of 25000MT by showing it as an agricultural land. This land was registered undervalued as Pawan kumar has been doing real estate business in the area of Municipal Council Zirakpur, where Girish Verma has remained posted as EO for a long time and has given him undue benefits in return, he added.
Moreover, he further said that Pawan Kumar has numerous other financial transactions with Vikas Verma, the son of Girish Verma, where he has helped Girish Verma in layering his ill gotten money and placing it in the legitimate system by taking cash and providing bank entries.
He informed that Girish was arrested in October 2022 and Pawan Kumar has been absconding. Further investigation is underway in the case.
Recently, the High Court has dismissed anticipatory bail petitions of co-accused Gaurav Gupta r/o Kurali (Ex-MC), Sanjiv Kumar r/o Kharar, both partners of Vikas Verma in the real estate firm Balaji Infra Buildtech. An anticipatory bail of Vikas Verma son of the EO Girish Verma has also been dismissed by the HC and he is still at large.
