Chandigarh, August 3:

Carrying forward the intensive recruitment drive of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led state government, the Soil & Water Conservation and Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjer handed over appointment letters to newly-recruited 61 Junior Draftsman of Soil and Water Conservation Department here at Municipal Bhawan.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nijjer reiterated the commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for stopping the brain drain from Punjab by creating new job opportunities so that the youth should not go to foreign shores in pursuit of their dreams.

Congratulating newly recruited officials, the Cabinet Minister exhorted them to work with zero tolerance policy towards corruption, besides discharging their duties with utmost dedication, honesty and with professional integrity as they are backbone of the department, being directly responsible for checking and verification of estimates prepared by Technical Staff for execution of soil and water conservation works. The Minister said that there was a shortage of employees in the department and newly-recruited batch would help the department a lot as these posts are of technical nature.

In view of deteriorating ground water scenario of the state, Dr. Nijjer emphasized to chalk out new programmes and intensify ongoing water conservation works. He called for initiating mass movement for water conservation in the state, especially in agriculture sector.

The Minister, while addressing the demand of shortage of other staff, assured that the Mann Government is tirelessly working on this direction and has already taken necessary steps to fill vacant posts in a fair and transparent manner.

Additional Secretary (Agriculture) Mr. Rahul Gupta and Chief Conservator of Soils & Head of the Department Mr. Mohinder Singh also congratulated newly recruited officials and expressed hope that this will strengthen department’s field level working.
