Frequently Asked Questions for National Census
What is the Census?
- The Census is a short survey that the US Census Bureau sends to each household in the nation every decade. It is required by the Constitution to count every person living in the United States of America.
Why is it Important?
- The Census acts as a pillar of the American Democracy and Constitution and ensures the votes of all citizens are accounted during the allocation of seats in the congress. It also informs citizens about how $900 billion of taxpayer money are spent every year on building roads, providing health insurance, and improving education. An accurate measure of this is essential for a strong democratic system as it ensures that the people will receive proper representation in government.
When is the Census?
- The Census is currently going on. It began on March 12, 2020, and most people should have received an invitation to the Census on their email or an actual form. You can fill this online from your home and it should not be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. You can carry out your role to protect democracy in America by responding to it.
