Government buildings will be made disabled friendly in Chandigarh and some districts: Dr. Baljit Kaur

The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led government is making continuous efforts for the welfare of the disabled. In addition to 193 buildings in the districts of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Moga, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bathinda and Mohali, it has been decided that 9 buildings of the Punjab government in Chandigarh city will be made disabled friendly. This is to assist people with disabilities to access government buildings with ease. . She said Rs.50 crore will be spent on this work.
Minister of Social Security, Women and Child Development Punjab Dr. Baljit Kaur said that to make these building suitable for the easy access of the disabled, provision of lifts, ramps, toilets, railings etc. will be made.
Dr. Baljit Kaur further said that new facilities such as stairs and ramps, corridors, entry gates, parking as well as internal and external facilities such as signage, alarm system and special toilets for the disabled will be added to the buildings. ‘These facilities will ensure adequate participation of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life, added Dr. Baljit.
