GST collection registers an increase of 25 percent: Yunus

Commissioner, State Taxes and Excise, Yunus in a communiqué issued here today, stated that the Goods and Service Tax (GST) collection has registered an increase of 25 percent in the month of February, amounting to collection of Rs. 377 crore. The GST collection in the current financial year has increased by 21 percent, stated he, adding that, the department has collected revenue of Rs. 4933 crore till February, 2023.

The handsome growth in GST collection during the current financial year is the result of strengthened enforcement alongside improved taxpayer compliances.

The sustained training effort of the department has helped in capacity building of the tax officers in a big way making enforcement activities more effective. It has trained around 450 tax officers recently, he said.

Sh. Yunus said that the department has verified 12 lakh e-way bills in the current financial year and a sum of Rs 8.18 crore was collected for violation of e-way bills during road checks conducted by the department.  Besides, the department is also committed to improve voluntary compliances with time-bound redressal of the issues of the stakeholders.

Continuous improvement in return filing, speedy scrutiny of returns, timely completion of GST audits and strengthened enforcement continue to be the focus areas for the department. The department is set to surpass the revenue target of Rs. 5130 crore fixed by the Government for the current ending financial year, he said.
