Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469. Since his very childhood, Guru Nanak Dev Ji had an unusually calm demeanor and was very spiritual by nature. He spent his time in meditation. He slept only for a few hours, ate small quantities of food and spoke only when required. Here is a list of 10 key lessons.
1. God is one
Guru Ji explained clearly that there is the only One God who gives to everyone and we should not forget to Him. Guru Ji said, that I am a follower of God”, which spoke about his belief in one God. In Sikhism, the god is shapeless, timeless, and sightless. Sikhism stresses that before creation there was God. The God in Sikhism is not male/female, and can only be seen through the inward eye.
2. Submission to the Will of God
Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave a massage and also says that everything happens by God’s Grace, so Rest assured that God knows better what is right or wrong for us. We should, therefore, accept His decisions without any worry
3. Equality
Equality is one of the most important lessons that can be driven by Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s life and they saw all human beings as equals. Guruji never differentiated between human being based on their caste, color and also financial status.

4. Seva – Selfless Service
Guru Ji says that no one can save other people. It is the only Guru who guides us to safety and to is saved, one has to follow the right path of SEWA and SIMRAN told by him. Seva means selfless service, serving the other without any personal profit. Guru Ji is not to be found in large palaces, he lives with poor.
If we recite Gurbani with love, we will find the Guru is speaking to us. We have been reminded of his observations many times in our life.h the aim of betterness service, serving the other without any greed or personal profit. According to him, Seva was the source of immense spiritual satisfaction.
5. Goodwill for all
Guru Nanak dev Ji gives the message of Universal. He said that religion is not a mere consistency of words but looks at all men and women equally. Brotherhood is a strong theme in Gurbani. “Nanak asks for( Naam)‘name of God with which comes well being, happiness and positive spirit and with your blessings, Lord may everyone in the world prosper.
6. To speak the truth
We should always speak the truth without any stress and also any worry. According to him the victory of truth is not dependent on ending but in standing firmly by the truth. That is why Guru Nanak Dev Ji exhorts that to stick to the truth.
7. Honesty
Guru Nanak Dev Ji trust in the fact that an essential part of one’s duty. Guru Ji emphasized on the fact that one should earn their living with utmost honesty. He professed that one’s way of life should be corruption-free. He exemplified that bread earned with corruption and dishonesty can never bring satisfaction in one’s life.
8. The Five Evils
According to him, the true meaning of life is attained when one achieves oneness with the Supreme Being. The five evils that Guru Nanak Dev Ji listed were Ego Anger, Greed, Attachment, and Lust. When one gets rid of these five evils, one becomes closer to God.
