Jio and Airtel respectively owned by Billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Mittal have reportedly announced to part ways as they seek different future goals, both owners have articulated their views on the growing telecom sector in India. The genera; the view was it is better to part ways since both seek different opportunities and favors from the government. Jio said that users are trapped in the 2G network bandwidth which is preventing them to fully benefit from the shift to Digital India, also Airtel has 2G users and voice-only customers who do not bring significant profits to the tie-up.
Mukesh Ambani in an industry event stated that he wants to make India free of the 2G network, and urged the government to phase out slower 2G networks in order to deliver faster 4G and 5G networks which are future-focused. Since Reliance Jio has heavily invested in these future driven bandwidths, they are seeking favors from the government. On the other hand, Airtel has requested the Government to lower the usage charges, license fee, and taxes as well in order to meet the regulatory payments timely.
Reliance Jio has developed an indigenous 5G network and also partnered with Google to help its consumers shift to the smartphone network. Airtel, on the other hand, has to pay a lot of taxes and levies to the government which is generated by the profits made from the 2G network users, thus the government should generate revenue from industries based on other telecom sectors.
