The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a Preliminary Enquiry (PE) to investigate allegations of ‘cash-for-query’ involving Mahua Moitra.
The CBI’s probe into the cash-for-query accusations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra stems from a referral made by the Lokpal.
The investigative agency is looking into the alleged “cash-for-query” incident based on a referral from the Lokpal, the anti-corruption authority responsible for addressing complaints against public servants, according to officials. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey had filed a complaint with the Lokpal, accusing Mahua Moitra of posing questions in the Lok Sabha with the aim of targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the request of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts.
CBI to assess whether there is enough evidence to convert it into a regular case (a First Information Report) or close it. The agency has the authority to scrutinize documents, summon individuals for questioning, but lacks the power to conduct searches or make arrests, as outlined in the agency’s manual.
