Mann Govt taken concrete steps to resolve various issues of NRI Punjabis: Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has taken concrete steps to resolve issues of the NRI Punjabis during the year 2022.

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, while divulging details, said that in order to resolve the issues and complaints of NRI Punjabis in a timely manner, ‘NRI Punjabian nal milani’ programs were held at Jalandhar, SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Moga and Amritsar on December 16, 19, 23, 26 and 30, respectively. He added that directions were issued to the concerned officials to resolve the issues of the NRI Punjabis as soon as possible and fix the stipulated time frame for pending issues.

Mr. Dhaliwal said that for the upgradation of 15 NRI police stations, a total of Rs. 30 lakh rupees, 2 lakh per Police Station, were released and basic amenities would be improved there soon. He added that fast track courts will also be established soon to resolve the issues of NRIs in a timely manner.

The Cabinet Minister said that to resolve the complaints of NRI Punjabis in the districts, PCS level nodal officers have been appointed with an aim to their sort out issues preferably. He said that their government has been committed to settle the issues of NRI Punjabis and instructions were issued to coordinate with the concerned Deputy Commissioner and SSP, if any specific case comes up to their notice.

Mr. Dhaliwal said that the issue will be taken up with the Center to give rights to the NRI Punjabis, who became the citizens of foreign countries. He asked that if a migrant Punjabi can his land in our country then why cannot he buy it in Punjab. He said that 50 percent of the cases of NRIs were related to marriages while 20 percent of the cases were related to land disputes. He said that the Punjab government is encouraging NRIs to contribute to improve the economy of Punjab and the Punjab government is sincere about their rights.

Mr. Dhaliwal further informed that the department has started ‘Apaniya Jarhan Nal Juro (Connect to your roots)’ scheme to promote the participation of diaspora Punjabis/Indians in the development of Punjab and to nurture their roots and motherland in Punjab. Under this scheme, young people between the age of 16 to 22 years were encouraged to come to Punjab and connect with their homeland and stay connected with the local culture. He said that NRIs are encouraged to participate in the development of infrastructure of their respective villages. Diaspora Punjabis can contribute 50 percent to the construction of any infrastructure or building such as schools, community services, hospitals, libraries, drinking water, sewerage, latrines, street lights, sports stadiums and other projects and the remaining 50 percent to the spent by the state government.
