On International Day of Action For Rivers, Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) accomplished the task to clean up an unauthorized dump point at Ghaggar Bridge, Derabassi with the help of a staff of the Municipal Council, Derabassi.
Disclosing this here, Punjab Science Technology and Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, while reiterating the commitment of the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, said that the actions speak louder than words and PPCB proved the adage true with its actions. He said that two trolleys of solid waste were got lifted from the unauthorized dump point at Ghaggar Bridge, Derabassi. This entire exercise was carried out with the help of a staff of the Municipal Council of Derabassi. Jute bags were also distributed to the staff of MC, Derabassi and asked to initiate a campaign to discourage the use of plastic bags.
Pertinently, the International Day of Action For Rivers, observed on March 14 every year, is a day that is dedicated to saving, celebrating, and creating awareness about the importance of rivers. The day is created to sensitize people about the importance of rivers. It brings people across the world together to talk about and save rivers by addressing the issues related to river management, river pollution and river conservation.
