Punjab government committed to encouraging para sportsmen: meet hayer
Continuous efforts are being made by the State Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to restore the lost glory of Punjab in the field of sports. A new sports policy is being made, in which Para Sports are also being given special attention while giving priority to all sports. It was stated by the Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in a press communiqué released here today.
The Sports Minister further said that the Para Athletes have made a name for themselves at the National and International levels. Meanwhile, he said that in the last few days, the Para Sportsmen of Punjab have performed very well in the National level competitions of Para Powerlifting, Para Athletics and Para Badminton. Punjab athletes won a total of 28 medals including 8 gold, 5 silver and 15 bronze medals. The Minister congratulated all those medal winners. He said that in the new sports policy, the Para sportspersons are being given priority and the policy is being made according to the feedback received from the players.
Giving further details, Meet Hayer said that in the National Para Badminton Championship held at Lucknow, Punjab’s Sanjeev Kumar won one gold, silver and bronze medal, Raj Kumar won two bronze medals and Shabana won two bronze medals. Similarly, Nisha won one silver and two bronze medals, Parveen Kumar one silver and one bronze and Gurharmandeep Singh won two bronze medals in the junior and sub-junior Para Athletics Championship held at Gujarat.
In the National Para Athletics Championship at Pune, Mithan won one gold, Karandeep Kumar one silver and one bronze, Gurveer Singh two bronze medals, Mohammad Yasser one silver and Annayea Bansal won one bronze medal. Similarly, Paramjit Kumar, Gursewak Singh, Varinder Singh, Mohammad Nadeem, Jaspreet Kaur and Seema Rani won gold medals and Kuldeep Singh and Sumandeep won bronze medals in the Senior and Junior National Para Powerlifting Championship held at New Delhi.
