Punjab Police Tracks Down 11 Kg Heroin Trail To Pak With Arrest Of Bsf Constable & Two Accomplices

SEVEN ARRESTED SO FAR, 19.25 LAKH DRUG MONEY AND WEAPONS SMUGGLED FROM ACROSS THE BORDER RECOVERED

CHANDIGARH, NOVEMBER 18: Acting swiftly into the investigations of the 11 KG heroin haul made yesterday, Punjab Police today tracked down its trail leading to Pakistan backed handlers and arrested a BSF constable, who was the main conduit, and two of his accomplices.

The police also recovered weapons sent from across the border alongwith both the drug consignments.

With today’s arrests,  seven persons have so far been arrested in the case.

A .30 bore foreign made Pistol sent alongwith the drug consignment, a bullet motorcycle and 745 gms of heroin was  recovered from constable Barinder Singh, who was arrested from BSF Premises in Ganga Nagar Rajasthan in a coordinated operation by Jalandhar Rural Police today. Following his interrogation, two other accused Balkar Singh Balli, s/o Gurmail Singh, r/o 10-O Srikaranpur Ganga Nagar, and Jagmohan Singh Jaggu r/o Ganga Nagar were arrested today. Another smuggled .30 bore Pistol and Rs 8 lakhs, alongwith a Verna car, have also been recovered from Balkar Singh.

Disclosing this here today, Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta said that the BSF constable was instrumental in transferring the drugs across the Indo-Pak border and handing them over to the other accused. Constable Barinder Singh, Reg No. 11050069, 91 BN HQ Srikaranpur, R/o Jassi Pau Wali, district Bathinda was presently deployed at 14-S Majhiwala Post Karanpur, and is being subjected to joint questioning at BSF premises in Rajasthan to establish his forward and backward linkages.

Police had arrested four drug smugglers yesterday from whose possession 11 KG heroin and 11.25 lakh drug proceeds were recovered. An i20 Car bearing the number plate HR 26 BQ 4401 and Verna car, had also been seized.

Investigations have so far revealed that  that two drug consignments of 5 kg (about 3 months ago) and 20 kg heroin respectively (about one month ago) had been smuggled across the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan. The illicit drug proceeds (about 78 lakh rupees) generated from the sale of first consignment of 4 kg out of 5 kg and as advance for the second consignment had already reached Pakistan through hawala channels.

According to investigations carried out so far, drug proceeds from the 2nd drug consignment (20 kg) were, however, yet to be funneled back to Pakistan, the DGP revealed further.

He said 2 weapons were also sent from Pakistan with each drug consignment, both of which have been recovered today, along with 73 live rounds and 5 magazines.

The operation was led by a Punjab Police team which had reached Ganganagar today morning,  after taking up the matter with the BSF authorities at the highest level, who fully cooperated in the investigations and detained the BSF constable as soon as information was shared with them.

An FIR No. 313/2020 U/S 21 (C) NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered at P.S Shahkot, Jalandhar (Rural). The 4 drug and weapon smugglers arrested yesterday were Ranjit Singh s/o Sukhdev Singh, r/o Kilca, PS Sadar Ferozepur, Harjinderpal @ Kala s/o Prem Singh, r/o Kilca, PS Sadar Ferozepur, Sanjit @ Mintu s/o Anait Ram, r/o H.No 92, Mohalla Bharat Nagar, Ferozepur, Kishan Singh @ Daulat, s/o Gurdev Singh, r/o 14-S Majiwal, PS Karanpur, Distt Ganga Nagar, Rajasthan.
