Punjab starts evaluation of pre-primary class students to ensure development: Harjot Bains

Chandigarh, September 12:

For ensuring all round development of pre-primary class students at the early stage, the Punjab Government has started evaluation of different facets of their personality, informed S. Harjot Singh Bains, Minister of School Education Punjab, here today. He said that the first assessment of the pre-primary (LKG and UKG) students will be held from September 12 to 27 by the SCERT and instructions in this regard have been issued to all officials and teachers of primary schools.

The Education Minister said that it has been made mandatory to inform the parents about the assessment of every child. The BMTs will upload the record of all the students on the web-portal till 10th October, 2022, he added.

The cabinet minister said that the objective of starting pre-primary schooling is to prepare children (3 to 6 years) for primary classes besides ensuring their all-round development. With this assessment, the department would be able to assess the tiny-tots’ required grasping power of learning.

He said that under the curriculum prepared by the school education department for these classes, activities are to be conducted for the children through the game method. Learning support materials along with report cards have been sent to the schools. The purpose of filling the report card is to ascertain and understand the child’s development, he added.

S. Bains informed that during the evaluation process, the teachers will only observe students while conducting the activities and in the next three days, the teacher will fill record of the children in report card, which has five main areas of child assessment such as physical, intellectual, social & emotional, language and English-language development, while each area will be assessed at three levels.
