India followed a “10+2+3” education system for children pursuing education till college level until now, but the government has finally unveiled a newly reformed system by introducing a national education policy of 2020 that has restructured the school education in the present time. The age group of 3-6 years is considered to be pre-school teaching, and after board examinations, this system of education emphasizes an SAT like university entrance exam that offers a four-year degree program to undergraduates. The new changes in the board structure have made the exam a test of core competencies which will be implemented from 2021.
The new structure will result in removing the rigid separation between streams like science, commerce, and arts. NEP provides extra flexibility to students who can participate in extracurricular activities along with studying the subjects of their preference. The latest policy has stated that vocational education in schools will start from sixth grade and students will be able to participate in internship programs. The new system will introduce a “5+3+3+4” structure and will offer subjects at two levels of proficiency, the board examinations will happen twice a year in multilingual medium, also top-rated global universities are facilitated to come to India to encourage a new system of education.
The teaching will be delivered in the regional language till eighth grade, and the Higher Education Commission of India will be responsible for meeting the quality standards of education and granting accreditation. A flexible curriculum will be introduced which will allow students to create a creative combination of different subjects, and authority will be responsible for helping school exams in third, fifth, and eighth grade. Also, a new National Assessment Centre is going to be set up for holding the redesigned board examinations for grade tenth and twelfth. The students are allowed to appear for board examinations up to two occasions during any given school year, also Sanskrit will be offered at all levels of schooling under the three-language formula introduced under the latest education policy of 2020.
