Submit plan to provide potable surface water supply to Hoshiarpur

SUBMIT PLAN TO PROVIDE POTABLE SURFACE WATER SUPPLY TO HOSHIARPUR WITHIN A MONTH, DIRECTS BRAM SHANKER JIMPA

 

• PROPOSED PROJECT WILL ALSO ENSURE POTABLE CANAL WATER SUPPLY TO AROUND 350 VILLAGES

 

Chandigarh, August 25:

Realizing the ambition of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann to provide potable tapped water supply to every household in the state, Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Mr Bram Shanker Jimpa directed the officials concerned to furnish a draft plan within a month for ensuring potable surface water supply to the residents of Hoshiarpur city and villages of the district. He was chairing a meeting with officials of the department of Water Supply & Sanitation, Water Resources and Local Government at his office here, on Thursday.

Asking the officials of these departments to work in unison to realize the proposed project, Mr. Jimpa directed the Water Resources department officials to finalize the tapping point from Sutlej River near Nurpur Bedi. This proposed project will ensure potable canal water supply to Hoshiarpur city and enroute 350 villages of Garhshankar and Mahilpur Blocks and typical Kandi/Beet area.

The Cabinet Minister also instructed to complete the immediately intake structure of 15 ongoing surface water supply projects in the state, while adding that these 15 projects will cover about 1700 villages of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Talwara, Fazilka and Ferozepur.

Mr. Jimpa also directed the officials of Local Government department to explore the feasibility of treating faecal sludge from villages nearby towns in the 59 STPs which have been planned in the urban areas. In addition to this, he also directed to converge solid and liquid waste management projects so as to cater to needs of both urban and rural areas.

Principal Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation Mr. DK Tiwari and Head of Department Mr. Vipul Ujwal, Director Local Government Mr. Puneet Goyal, CEO Punjab Water Supply & Sewerage Board Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Chief Engineer Water Supply and Sanitation Mr. Kuldeep Singh Saini and Chief Engineer (Headquarters) Water Resources Mr.  Ishwar Dass Goyal and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
