In a bid to prevent road accidents due to dense fog, the PWD Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO installed reflectors on vehicles at Barodi Toll Plaza located on Kurali Chandigarh road here today.
Speaking to media, on this occasion, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that it has come to fore that most of the road accidents occurred due to the lack of reflectors on the vehicles.
He said that reflectors on vehicles plays a vital role for motorists and commuters to detect the vehicle. He said that as the fog is likely to continue for the next few days, there is a threat of rising road accidents, therefore, by installing reflectors, the vehicles on the roads are visible from a distance and any untoward incidents could be avoided.
The Cabinet Minister said that he unequivocally directed concerned officials to all the state and national highway tolls in Punjab to ensure all the arrangements made regarding road safety.
He urged to the people that all should exercise caution while travelling and drive vehicles with dipper and lights on. He also told that keeping this campaign in mind, installation of reflectors on the dividers on the roads in the state has also been started.
He asked the drivers of school vans to drive with full caution, and those with heavy vehicles and tractor trolleys to try to avoid ply their vehicle in the morning when it is school time considering during the foggy season.
