BJP Selects Sanjay Tandon Over Kirron Kher for Chandigarh Lok Sabha Seat
In a strategic move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Wednesday the selection of Sanjay Tandon as its candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, replacing the two-time sitting Member of Parliament Kirron Kher.
Sanjay Tandon, aged 60, hails from a prominent political family, being the son of a BJP leader from Punjab and former Governor of Chhattisgarh, Balramji Das Tandon.
Residing in Sector 18, Tandon boasts a significant tenure as the Chandigarh BJP president, serving from 2010 to 2019.
The decision to nominate Tandon caught many within the Chandigarh BJP by surprise. Various factions within the party had been advocating for a “local candidate” to be fielded, with leaders like former president Arun Sood vying for the opportunity.
There were even reservations expressed against Tandon, who also holds the position of co-incharge of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, being selected as the candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat.
