A complaint has been filed against a web portal with the cybercrime cell of Punjab Police to be facilitating the college and university admissions. Patiala-based MM College’s principal in his complaint has accused the portal managers of leaking the data of public universities and their affiliated aided colleges and then forcing aspirants to take the admissions in private universities situated in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.
Numerous complaints from its colleges and schools of the management studies and Punjabi University management has decided to take legal action against the website collegedunia.com for the alleged wrong practice. The university got to know about this after a student registered and enquired about the admission in the university. The portal also claimed that they are authorized by state universities and colleges to talk on their behalf. The process has been initiated for legal action against the portal as it will affect the admissions in the Punjabi University, also they have said that the university has not authorized any private website to admit the students on their behalf.
According to the higher officials, the website is violating intellectual property rights and was causing a revenue loss to the colleges by misleading the aspirants. Though the website is not responding, therefore, confusion has been built among the aspirants and officials. The cyber cell deputy superintendent of police Chiranjiv Lamba says that they have received the complaint and a sub-inspector rank officer has been directed to investigate the same. Further action will be taken as per the law,” he said.
