Yet another tremor shook Doda today causing concern among people. Doda district has been witness to half a dozen tremors during the last few days. The repeated earthquakes, although did not cause any loss of life but some other houses in Gandoh and other parts of the district developed cracks. The recurring tremors in the district have caused a fear psychosis among the residents. The latest earthquakes measuring 4.3 magnitudes occurred at around 1.11 pm. The epicenter of the quake was 60 km east of nightwear. Residents came out of their houses and rushed to safer places. No loss of life was reported from any corner of the district
Doda has had a history of earthquakes. The most prominent earthquakes in recent history have been in 2005 and 2013 when the State Disaster Management Authority along with Red Cross distributed Tents among people of the region. These tents were actually used and for what seemed like an eternity people didn’t sleep in their houses.
Now for the last three days, four earthquakes have rocked Doda and it seems like a trip down memory lane minus the tents. There is a growing fear among the residents, who are seeing the events unfold in ways known to them.
While speaking to the media, Civil Society Doda along with various Social Activists raised the issue that since Doda District falls in a Seismic Zone, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor must take a personal interest in setting up a Seismological Center in Chenab Valley and preferably District Doda.
