SC grants bail to Sanjay Singh; big day for democracy, says AAP

The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in the money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy is being hailed as a significant moment for democracy by the AAP.

The Court, after considering a concession made by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), permitted Singh’s release, clarifying that it wasn’t expressing any opinion on the case’s merits. Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and PB Varale issued the order, noting that Singh could engage in political activities during his bail period but must refrain from making public statements about the case. The Court dismissed Singh’s second petition challenging his arrest and remand as moot.

Earlier, AAP MLAs, including Saurabh Bharadwaj and Kailash Gahlot, visited Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to express solidarity with his wife, Sunita, and reiterated their stance that the Chief Minister should not resign.

Kejriwal was recently remanded to judicial custody until April 15 in the Delhi liquor policy case, with the Enforcement Directorate seeking a 15-day extension in custody during the excise policy case proceedings. Meanwhile, leaders from the ‘INDIA’ bloc gathered at a ‘loktantra bachao’ (save democracy) rally, condemning what they perceive as the NDA government’s authoritarian tactics and misuse of central agencies to suppress political opposition.

Sanjay Singh’s wife affirmed that their struggle would persist until the release of Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain, expressing gratitude to the court while eagerly anticipating Singh’s return.
