UGC Likely to Cancel Final Year University Exams
The exams of final year students for the session 2020 are likely to be canceled and the commencement of new academic sessions will be announced from October. Earlier the exam which was supposed to be held in May was postponed to July, but due to the increasing cases of Covid-19, the decision has been taken. Not only final years but also the CBSE Board exams were also about to be canceled which were scheduled in July. Even though, the JEE (Main) and NEET-UG are also on the urge to postpone.
The recommendation has been given by the UGC panel of experts headed by Haryana University Vice-Chancellor RC Kuhad when he reviewed the prevailing situation. The expert panels have observed that the final examination cannot be held in July as scheduled due to the risk of exposure of the students. The senior UGC official had said that the new guidelines are likely to be issued after getting approval from the HRD Ministry. Although the HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal had advised UGC to review the guidelines issued earlier for intermediate and terminal semester examinations and academic calendar. The revised guidelines will be as per the health and safety of the students, teachers, and all the staff.
The Universities and schools are being closed since March 16 when the PM Modi has announced a nationwide lockdown.
