Governor head Crime review meeting with senior officials

Chandigarh, 3 June 2020: Hon’ble Governor, Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh Sh. V. P. Singh Badnore held a crime review meeting with senior functionaries of Chandigarh Administration today at the Raj Bhawan. The meeting was attended by the Advisor to Administrator, Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, DIG UT, DIG Traffic & Security and SSP UT, wherein the Hon’ble Governor reviewed the crime pattern of pre and post COVID 19  period and the new initiatives taken by Chandigarh Police.

The Governor expressed his concerns over the recent shooting incidents in Chandigarh and directed the Police Department to arrest all the culprits at the earliest. The DGP apprised the Hon’ble Governor about the progress of the investigation of these incidents and the preventive measures that are being taken in the city.

The DGP highlighted that during the year 8 out of 9 murders have been solved and accused have been arrested. Robberies have decreased by 67%. Snatching, Burglary, and MV Thefts in the city have decreased by 50%, 36% and 33% respectively. The DGP stated that Chandigarh Police has successfully worked out such sensational cases in the past and assured that no effort will be spared in solving these cases as expeditiously as possible. However, the Governor directed that intensive patrolling, increased number of Nakas and enhanced Police visibility must be ensured on the streets of Chandigarh. Action against active criminals to be enhanced in the city.

​The soon to be launched e-Challan System of Chandigarh Traffic Police was presented before the Hon’ble Governor who appreciated the system. The Hon’ble Governor was also apprised that Chandigarh Traffic Police is going to introduce “Driver Refresher Training course” at Children Traffic Park for traffic offenders whose driving license has been suspended / revoked by the RLA Chandigarh.

It was informed by the DGP that inter-state coordination meeting between Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana will be held tomorrow on various issues of Crime, Security and sharing of Criminal Intelligence with special focus on the recent shooting incidents in the city.
