Changes introduced for class 12th in 2020 CBSE Exam

The authorities responsible for conducting the 12th standard CBSE 2020 board exams have recently introduced a qualitative change in the format of the exam paper pattern. These changes will soon be implemented in consideration with improving the quality of education in India, like developing analytical skills and reasoning abilities among students, and discourage cramming notes in the end hour, this will not only help the students to score better in the CBSE Board Exams, but also help the CBSE board function at its best as a coordinated system in the future. Therefore, students must be aware of every single update in the examination pattern from time-to-time.

The major changes introduced in the CBSE Exams 2020 are listed below:

  • Internal Assessment for Every Subject: The CBSE Board has stated that from now on every subject will consist of an internal assessment of 20 marks, resulting in reducing the total marks of the final board examination to 80 marks. The internal assessment will help students to maintain a good result in boards, and it will be conducted in the school premises itself in the presence of internal and external examiners.
  • More MCQs in the Board Exam: The question paper will now consist of 25 percent MCQ based questions therefore students will have to answer subjective questions for only 60 marks out of the remaining 80. This is a major relief for class 12th students as they are saved from the burden of writing lengthy answers in the exam time, from now rather than writing detailed answers in the examination, answering the MCQs will promote understanding the basics of every chapter in students and scoring well in the examination rather than cramming all the specific details of the chapters in the end.
  • Speaking and Listening (ASL) has 20 marks in Assessment: The CBSE board has allotted 20 marks to the ASL Assessment in the English subject. The students will be assessed by the external examiners for their English speaking and listening proficiency, on the basis of these skills they will be marked for overall 20 marks that will be added to the 80 marks final board examination.
  • More Internal Choices: Answering questions on the CBSE Board Exam will become easier since the board has introduced a large number of internal choices in the questions to make the students comfortable in answering. This measure was introduced in 2019 itself when MCQs were increased by 33 percent, the internal choices help the students in choosing a question to answer which they are more confident about, thus resulting in boosting their final score in the exam.
  • School Exams to weigh 10 Marks: The CBSE Board has allotted 10 marks from School examinations to be counted in the total marks of a subject. The internal assessment will affect the weightage of subjects in the exam, as for subjects like English and Mathematics the Board examination will be of 80 marks, and the remaining 20 marks are distributed in 10 marks for internal assessment and 10 marks from school exam results which will harbor the ideology of performing well in school exams.
  • Practical Examination will be Conducted at External Centers: CBSE is thriving to conduct the practical Board examinations at external centers in the presence of external examiners since a very long time, this will possibly be implemented for CBSE 2020 Exam in December, 2019. The CBSE Board will also develop a new marking scheme for these practical exams to benefit the students and make this procedure conductible. However, no further notice has been issued till yet by the Board.
