Chandigarh, April 27
A delegation of Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing various Colleges and Universities today met Higher Education Minister, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa. During the meeting, Bajwa said that corona virus should not affect the education of higher education students and no student should be deprived of education. He said that regular academic activities should be conducted smoothly through online systems.

On the occasion the delegation presented their various demands to the Higher Education Minister regarding which the Minister directed Higher Education Secretary Rahul Bhandari and Deputy Director Gurdarshan Singh Brar to take action to resolve the genuine demands. Redressing the demands of the JAC delegation the higher education minister directed the officials to coordinate with the Social Securities department regarding the release Rs 300 Crore of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme and also take necessary action to release the pending B. Ed fees of the self financed colleges. Besides this as per the demand raised by the delegation regarding the collection of fees from the students the minister directed to resolve the issue in the interests of students as well as institutions so that no one suffers. Regarding the demand of loan on endowment fund the minister asked the officials to consider this demand if there is any such possibility.
The delegation members Satnam Singh Sandhu Chancellor, Chandigarh University along with other JAC directors including Jagjit Singh, President, B.Ed Federation; Dr Anshu Kataria, President, Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA and Nirmal Singh, ETT Federation appreciated the timely steps taken by the Punjab Government to control the spread of Covid-19 in Punjab to a great extent. He said that the students, staff and Management of all the Colleges and Universities of Punjab are with the Govt to help in this situation. The education institutions of Punjab are regularly helping the needy and deprived people in getting the food and medicines.
