Tips to prepare for the CAT Exam

Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the highly competitive tests for management students in India. Nearly a quarter-million students give the exam for the same in the hope for the admission in Business schools and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It is a computer-based online exam in the form of MCQs and type in answers, the exam has 100 questions and three hours to solve them. The question paper is divided into three sections that test the quantitative, logical and verbal ability and reading comprehension ability of the students. There is negative marking in the examination, for each wrong answer the score is deducted.

The CAT exam is surely one amongst the toughest exams with all the competition, and due to the negative marking, the students end up with exam anxiety in their preparation phase. Some of the Scholar who have passed this exam have shared some tips to score better marks in the CAT exam. So, these are the tips told by the students who were able to clear the required percentile of the exam.

  • Mock Test- There was a big emphasis on regular practice by solving some mock tests. It will help students in managing the time and getting used to the type of questions that will be there in the real test. One might not need to attempt all of them, but solving 60-80 questions should give the students a good idea of how to prepare well and be ready for the final exam.
  • Managing Mistakes – One of the other reasons to undertake some mock test is to discover the key mistakes, as it can help the students to avoid them in the final exam, and in fact, it can help students get a better score. It’s better to analyse these mistakes before the exams rather than after the exam.

No exam is tough, with the right amount of practice. Students must be careful and make sure that they don’t burden themselves with the stress of the exam. They must always take adequate breaks in between and keep themselves as much stress-free as possible.
