India accounts for 1.26 Billion population, in which 50 percent of people are below the age group of 25. According to recent reports, India currently ranks second after China in the International student enrollment program in countries across the globe. Studying abroad helps students to stay ahead of their peers, because an International Degree is globally recognized which depicts the endeavor of the students to thrive and achieve success in an environment outside their comfort zone. This internationally recognized degree provides a pathway to a prosperous career in terms of employability aspects and living standards, as living abroad improves the vocabulary and language skills of students immensely.
Indian students who get international exposure, learn about sports played in foreign countries, about their culture and history, and also, they get a chance to become a part of the global organizations and fraternities to make connections for a lifetime. There are several other such opportunities that they get to build their career upon, in a coexisting friendly environment. Every year, most of the Indian students leave the country to fulfill their aspirations of studying abroad, because there are several compelling reasons listed below, behind which Indians want to pursue higher education and a career in a foreign country.
The quality of the available courses in colleges of India is developing rapidly, though the need for practical applications of skills learned through conceptual understanding is not met on time. Indian students tend towards searching for courses in higher education abroad because there is a strong culture of technology and innovation in every sector. These students struggle to find job opportunities in their own country, which leads back to the problem with the Indian education system that focuses more on cramming notes last-minute for passing the exams rather than understanding the concepts better to gain knowledge.
The education structure of abroad is modeled in such a manner that the teaching and learning process becomes much fun, as it includes the active participation of students in case studies, dialogue exchange and on and off-campus experiences. These courses provide more flexibility to the students for pursuing a bachelor’s degree along with working part-time to manage their expenses. The global recognition of the college provides a strong alumni network around the globe, that helps in building relationships for future opportunities. International students can work together towards the research and development field and render services to the whole world in providing better living standards in the end.
The major problem faced by the Indian youth is to handle the pressure exerted by the society for specifically enrolling in a few popular courses namely Engineering, Medical Science, Technology and Mathematics. Students who wish to choose a lesser-explored domain have to find courses abroad for pursuing higher education since the desired program is not widely available in the country itself. Also, the universities of India lack accreditation and expertise in that specific course such as film-making, in which students pursuing this course in India will only get a diploma from a film academy but there is a bachelor’s degree associated with greater depth in the course offered abroad.
The colleges abroad offer courses in some of the unconventional fields like psychology, sports, and entertainment. However, the foreign countries are also home to some affordable universities that offer courses in Engineering programs like Computer Science, Mechanical, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Aeronautical Engineering. The top five affordable universities in UK are Teesside University, The University of Bolton, University of Birmingham, Staffordshire University, and Harper Adams University.
The admission to top-ranked institutions in India is restricted to top ranks secured in highly competitive exams held in the country, and the seats available for admission are limited. Students in India aspire to join IIT, NIT, IIM, and AIIMS like institutions for which the competition becomes more intense, as level of disciplined studying increases. Students are under immense extensive pressure to perform well in the JEE or NEET exam held nationwide. There is less than 50 percent chance for students to secure admission in the top-rated colleges of India, therefore they search for courses in higher education abroad.
In India, high cutoffs of competitive exams have led the students to search for courses abroad because there is no guaranteed admission in top priority colleges. The undergraduate admissions in top-ranked foreign institutions are comparatively easier, therefore students from India who have a strong academic standing and enough budget choose to take a big leap in their education career.
The Indian education system lacks in providing the advanced resources and proper infrastructure to students of Research & Development, due to budget and time constraints. Students who pursue research-centric courses like Biology, Pharmacy and work in the field of technological innovations are subjected to such constraints since Indian colleges fail to provide timely support to these students. Indian students choose to study higher education in institutions of countries like Britain, America and Canada that offer several resources with the aid of sophisticated technology. Foreign institutions provide students favorable climatic conditions, flora and fauna, and likable habitat in specific locations of countries.
Indian students are lured by the job prospects offered after post-graduation by the universities in foreign countries, therefore they seek an emigration pathway through higher education studies abroad. The new immigration policies allow international students to stay in a foreign country post-graduation for at least 2 years and promises consistency and efficiency in student visa application process. In a recent study, it has been found that 80 percent of students from India tend to stay abroad and find high-quality jobs after graduation and doctoral studies. Students can now provide legal proof of funds and proficiency in English language to pass visa approval faster.
The new Student Direct Stream (SDS) system provides individuals permanent residence and citizenship in the foreign countries, which is done through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) that determines the eligibility of an immigrant on the basis of age, gender, language proficiency and adaptability, and work experience throughout the surpassed years. 15 points are accredited to students completing a Bachelor’s Degree, whereas 30 points are given for a Master’s Degree accreditation.
