Amitabh Bachchan received the Dadasaheb Phalke award in Delhi today. President Ram Nath Kovind presented him with the award.

The 66th National awards were held on December 23rd, 2019 in Delhi. Amitabh Bachchan was ill at that time and couldn’t attend the ceremony. All the national award winners were invited today by president Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan for a get-together.
Amitabh Bachchan was accompanied by wife Jaya and son Abhishek at the event.
Amitabh Bachchan thanked the minister of information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar and the President. He mentioned that it was by the grace of God, the blessings of his parents and the support of his colleagues from the industry and love of the people that made him achieve this. Dadasaheb Phalke awards were established 50 years back which is the time he joined the industry and he accepts it with gratitude.
He ended his speech by saying, “ when the award was announced, I thought it is a hint to tall me that my time is over and I need to take rest at home now. There is still some work to be finished and I would be grateful if you all give me more opportunities in the future”
The award was named after the father of Indian cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke and was instituted in 1969. It is conferred by the government for outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The awardee gets a Swarna Kamal and a cash prize of ten lakh rupees.
He ended his address by saying, “When the award was announced, I thought if this is a hint to tell me that my time is over and I need to rest at home now. There’s still some work I have to finish and I will be grateful if I get more opportunities in the future.”
