Ravidas Jayanti 2024- Guru Ravidas Jayanti is the birthday of Guru Ravidas. He was the Indian mystic poet and the saint of the Bhakti movement during the 15th century CE. he emerged as a Guru in several parts of the country during that time. He used to teach his lessons through poems and songs which gives a lasting impact on the students. He was a poet-saint, a social reformer, and a spiritual figure during the 16th century.
Guru Ravidass Jayanti is celebrated on Magh Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Magh that is February. On this day the devotees read Amritbani Guru Ravidass Ji. Also, there is a special aarti and a Nagar Kirtan procession bearing the guru’s portrait is taken out. Some devotees take a holy dip in the river to perform rites. A grand celebration takes place at Seer Goverdhanpur, Varanasi which is the birthplace of Guru Ravidass.
