Happy Vaisakhi 2023 – Vaisakhi also knows as Baisakhi is a historical festival as well as a religious festival in Sikhism. Usually, it is celebrated on 13th April or 14th April every year. This commemorates the formation of Khalsa pant of the warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.
Vaisakhi is celebrated as the Solar new year for many Hindus according to the Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar. Vaisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakha. Traditionally it is the spring harvest festival for the Sikhs.
The significance of this festival as the major Sikh festival marks the birth of Sikh order which has been started after the persecution and execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur for refusing to convert to Islam under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This triggered the coronation of the tenth Guru of Sikhism and the historic formation of Khalsa, both on the Baisakhi day. There is much other significance that has been noted on the Vaisakhi day.
The Gurudwaras are being decorated and hold Kirtans on this day. Mostly the Sikhs visit and bathe in the lakes or rivers before visiting the local Gurudwaras and community fairs. Nagar Kirtan processions are being held and people gather to socialize and share festive food.
