Clashes over CAA in northeast Delhi, head constable killed
The Delhi Police head constable had been killed in the clashes over CAA in Delhi, meanwhile, a deputy commissioner of police have been injured, in the clashes in north Delhi’s Jaffrabad and Maujpur on Monday due to CAA. The protestors burnt houses, shops, and vehicles and hurling stones. Violence between the groups has been supported and opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which was reported in the areas Chandbagh and Bhajanpura areas.
The police fired tear gas shells and did lathi-charge to disperse the violent crown of the protestors. The Head Constable, Ratan Lal attached to the office of the ACP Gokalpuri, was killed. Several other police personnel was injured including the DCP Amit Sharma, of Shahdara while trying to quell the protests.
The police have imposed Section 144 of CrPc, which prohibits the assembly of the four or more than four people, in the areas affected by the violence in northeast Delhi. The stone-pelting in Maujpur, while the protestors had been baton-charged by the police to get dispersed. A protestor was also seen moving towards the Delhi Police with a gun in his hand. He shot a few rounds in the air as well. A fire tender had been damaged by the protestors after they responded to a fire call in the area.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requested the center to restore law and order in the national capital. The Delhi Police got instructions from the Lt. Governor Anil Baijal, to ensure the situations should be brought under the control.
The Delhi Metro has been closed its entry and exit at the Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur stations due to an uneasy calm which has been prevailed in the area. The entry and exit were closed at the Jaffrabad metro station for around 24 hours.
