What We Can Learn From The World Ozone Day

Ozone holds as much importance as water, air, and soil hold for all the living beings on Earth.

16 September is observed as the ‘World Ozone Day’ as a reminder of its worth and the present need for ozone conservation.

As you must be knowing that the Sun emits ultraviolet radiation which can cause maximum damage to the living organisms. The damage can be in the form of skin cancers in humans to the death of the green plants.

As such, ozone serves as a protective gaseous layer situated in the stratosphere at a height of 25km from the MSL(Mean Sea Level). Ozone is capable of readily absorbing most of the extremely harmful UVB radiation.

This year’s theme of the Ozone Day ‘32 years and Healing’, is dedicated to the magnanimous efforts of the people on a global level to protect the live-saving ozone.

World Ozone Day was officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly on 19 December 2000, attaching much significance to the Montreal Protocol, which was signed in 1987 to protect the ozone from the different depleting substances like the Chlorofluorocarbons (CFLs).

The world is witnessing the depletion of the ozone since the 1970s and is working against all the limits to defeat it.

The celebration of the World Ozone Day is symbolic of this!
