31st National Road Safety week with the slogan – “Sadak Suraksha- Jeewan Raksha”

DODA, January 11,2020:- Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Doda today kick started the 31st National Road Safety week with the slogan – “Sadak Suraksha- Jeewan Raksha”.

The week began with  the flagging off of a student rally by the Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Dr Sagar D Doifode along with SP Operations Doda, ARTO Doda, Er.Kuldeep Singh, organizing the event on behalf of MVD, J&K, in the presence of CPO,CEO Doda,DSWO Doda, DySP DAR & Traffic Doda, AO DRDA, MVI’s, Officials of Information department, Drivers, Driving Schools, and other members from transport unions, police fraternity and civil administration.

The rally started from sports stadium Doda through Old Bus Stand to Nagri and culminated at the community hall Doda. The school students along with ARTO, DySp traffic, Members of transport union, drivers, led the rally through which the message of road safety was spread by chanting slogans”My life, My care” coined by DC Doda.

At the outset ARTO Doda in his address highlighted the seriousness of the program in-front of the participants and also shared the information of the recorded accidents across the district during last year under which many people have lost their precious life, besides shared the activity chart which will be carried out during the week at district and sub division level.

ARTO said that, “The rally will be followed by other events throughout the week which shall include free medical checkup of drivers, poster making and debate competition,flag off of road safety van and much more.

On the occasion the  Deputy Commissioner, DODA, Dr Sagar D Doifode stressed on the importance of Road Safety and imbibing it as a way of life and not confining it to a mere slogan.

He further assured all possible support for carrying out such awareness programs on a regular basis along with strict enforcement of traffic laws and appealed to the general public to cooperate in the mission of road safety by being vigilant and reporting the incidents of violation to the authorities.

The emphasis of this event has been more of awareness and less of challenging and spreading the message of “SADAK SURAKSHA-JEEWAN RAKSHA”, said DC Doda.

Moreover, he also said that the majority of the accidents happen due to the negligence,over speed and overconfidence of the driver’s, besides said that our motto shouldn’t reduce the deaths but to ensure that no accident shall happen.

The week is being celebrated throughout Indian on the direction of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and aims at reducing the risk of road accidents and to safeguard the precious human lives.

It also emphasizes on encouraging the Good Samaritans and civic sense among the masses, and make people aware about the basics of Road Safety. Specially Rural Road safety and reducing the evils of using mobile phones while driving,over speed, which has become a huge hazard especially among the youngsters.

The focus shall also be on educating passenger vehicle drivers and refreshing their driving skills and making them aware of the latest road safety practices and the ways to save lives in case of emergency by providing first aid.

The week shall culminate by providing recognition to the best drivers, and facilitating students and vigilant and responsible citizens who participate in the events being organised throughout the week.

The DC also asked the ARTO and DySp traffic Doda to categories the public transport into three categories of A,B&C by taking the precedence of all the driver’s of public transport into account, so that the driver coming into the category of B&C shall assess himself and try to become a safe driver in comparison to the A category driver.

Earlier DC Doda asked all the participants to observe a two minute silence in memory of those people who have lost their precious lives in the last year because of the negligence shown by the erring driver which was followed by the pledge of road safety, which was read out by the DC Doda himself to the participants.
