Understanding the importance of water, State Government is doing commendable work in the direction of water harvesting

While realizing the vision of the Chief Minister, work on water conservation started in Haryana

The government is giving an incentive amount of Rs. 7000 per acre to farmers for adopting crop diversification

Chandigarh, February 28: At present, the availability of water is decreasing rapidly due to the increasing population.  If water conservation is not taken care of in time, then in the future it will certainly become a big challenge to ensure the adequate availability of drinking water for every person.

Understanding the same, the Haryana Government has intensified its efforts to conserve water.  While realizing the vision of the Chief Minister, commendable work is being done on water conservation by the State Government.  Water is life and the government is constantly making efforts for ensuring the maximum availability of water in the state.  The Chief Minister believes that if the management of water is done in the right manner, then only we can save water.

Dam is being constructed to save water

In view of the depleting groundwater level and the demand for water in the state, new methods of water conservation are being adopted.  Water flowing through small springs in the Aravalli and Shivalik hills is being protected by constructing a dam.

The Chief Minister has asserted that rainwater should be stored for storing up ponds, step-wells and lakes.  It is worth mentioning here that monsoon rain is an important source of water supply in the country but due to the lack of proper storage of rainwater at present, a large part of it gets washed away.  Keeping this in mind, the Haryana government has taken the initiative of rainwater harvesting by constructing a dam and protecting the wasted water.

Mera Pani Meri Virasat Yojana pivotal steps towards water conservation

Along with this, many schemes are also being run by the government for water conservation. ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ Yojana is also playing a very important role in water conservation. This unique scheme of the Haryana Government has started showing positive results.

The inclination of farmers has shifted to other crops instead of sowing water-intensive crops like paddy.  Paddy is cultivated in about 37 lakh acres in the state, which is the main reason for the depleting groundwater level.  However, under the ‘Mera Pani Meri Virasat’ scheme of the Haryana government, in the year 2021, 32196 farmers has sown other crops in place of paddy in an area of 51874 acres and got an incentive amount of Rs 7000 per acre.

Notably, under this scheme, farmers are being given an incentive amount of Rs.7000 per acre for adopting other alternative crops having less water consumption in place of paddy.

Farmers are also encouraged to adopt micro-irrigation

At the same time, farmers are also being encouraged to adopt micro-irrigation in the state.  Subsidy is being given by the government on the equipments of micro-irrigation.  For the construction of ponds in the field, the farmer will get a subsidy of 70 percent on the total expenditure and he will have to pay only a 30 percent amount. Similarly, for the installation of solar pumps with a capacity from 2 HP to 10 HP, the farmer will have to pay 25 percent only and he will get a 75 percent subsidy. Micro-irrigation will not only provide ample water to the farmers but will also ensure adequate water supply for agriculture for the next several years.
