Chandigarh, March 31 – Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. J.P. Dalal today launched the portal of ‘Mukhya Mantri Bagwani Bima Yojana.’ Under this scheme, farmers will be compensated for the damage caused to their crops due to adverse weather and natural calamities.
He said that adverse weather and natural calamities like hailstorm, temperature, frost, water perils (flood, cloudburst, breakage of canal/drain, water logging), wind velocity and fire which cause crop loss, were included in this scheme. He elaborated that 21 crops are covered under this scheme namely – 14 vegetables (tomato, onion, potato, cauliflower, peas, carrot, okra, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, green chilli, capsicum, cabbage, radish), 2 spices (turmeric, garlic) and 5 fruits (mango, kinnow, berry, guava, lychee) are included in this Scheme.
Sh. Dalal said that this scheme will be optional for all those farmers who will get registered under Meri Fasal Mera Byora. Under the scheme, the sum assured will be Rs 30,000 per acre for vegetables and spices and Rs 40,000 per acre for fruits. The farmer’s contribution/share will be only 2.5 percent of the assured amount, which is Rs 750 per acre in vegetables and Rs 1,000 per acre in fruits.
The Agriculture Minister said that the compensation has been divided into four categories 25, 50, 75 and 100. He said that in case of crop loss between 26 per cent to 50 per cent, compensation at the rate of 50 per cent for vegetables/spices that is Rs 15,000 and for fruits Rs 20,000, in case of loss between 51 per cent and 75 per cent, the compensation will be at the rate of 75 per cent that is Rs. 22,500 for vegetables/spices and Rs 30,000 for fruits and in case of more than 75 percent loss, compensation will be given at the rate of 100 percent for vegetables/spices that is Rs 30,000 for vegetables / spices and Rs 40,000 for fruits.
Sh. Dalal informed that Rs.10 crore will be kept by the government as initial capital for the Scheme. Compensation amount will be based on survey. Monitoring of the scheme, review and resolution of disputes will be done through the state-level and district-level committees constituted under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Smt. Sumita Misra and Director General of Horticulture, Sh. Arjun Saini and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
