Chandigarh, February 4 – Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal today took stock of the construction works of Shaheed Samark of the first freedom struggle being built at Ambala Cantonment. The Chief Minister said that this is the 75th year of Independence, which is being celebrated as the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on the call of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi. He said that the saga of independence is very long and during this Mahotsav, various programmes are being organized for the youth to get information about the freedom struggle and martyrs.

Haryana Home and Health Minister, Sh. Anil Vij was also present on the occasion. While inspecting the construction work of the Shaheed Samark, the Chief Minister inquired about the presentation on revolution of 1857 freedom struggle which started from Ambala Cantonment. This Shaheed Samark is being built on 22 acres at a cost of Rs. 261 crore and about 80 percent of its work has been completed. Interpretation centre, open air theatre, museum, auditorium, water body and connecting bridge, memorial tower, underground double basement parking, information centre, helipad etc. are being constructed in this memorial. After observing the work being done at the Shaheed Samark, the Chief Minister also gave necessary directions to the officers and writers who contributed in preparing the Shaheed Samark.

The spark of freedom struggle started from Ambala before independence

Sh. Manohar Lal said that earlier it was believed that the revolt of 1857 had started from Meerut, however, historians have said that 10 hours before Meerut, the first spark of freedom struggle arose in Ambala Cantonment, and spread to different regions of the country. He said that this important monument is being built in the memory of the martyrs and revolution of 1857, which will inspire the coming generations and they will be able to get information about the life of the revolutionary brave martyrs.

The Chief Minister said that history can be known in many ways through books and stories, but with the construction of such a monument, the onlookers get information about history directly.

Raised voice to build a memorial in Ambala Cantonment in memory of the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle of 1857-Sh. Anil Vij

On this occasion, the Sh. Anil Vij, while welcoming the Chief Minister to Ambala Cantonment, said that he has been raising the issue in the Vidhan Sabha since 2000 that the first spark of the freedom struggle of 1857 was started from Ambala Cantonment. A memorial should be built in Ambala Cantonment in memory of unsung heroes. His aim was also that the spark of freedom that had started from Ambala Cantonment should be known to the people and through the memorial; people can take inspiration from it by remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs.

He said that some parties advocated from the beginning that they were the ones who fought the freedom struggle even though this fight had started in 1857. He said that from this it is clear that the people of India already had the spirit of independence and they had lit the first light of independence in 1857 itself. The names of such revolutionary brave martyrs were not allowed to emerge and their lives were not remembered. The Home Minister said that when our government was formed the matter of Shaheed Samark in front of the Chief Minister was put infront of the Chief Minister and was immediately approved.

The monument being built in Ambala will be among the best architectural wonders of India

Sh. Anil Vij said that one of the best architectural wonders of India will be open to the pubic in the form of the martyr memorial and for this a committee of historians has been formed. Professor Yuvi Singh is a part of this committee. It is also proved through Late Historian KC Yadav’s research and documents that the first war of independence started in 1857.

He said that this would become one of the best and Shaheed Samark of India, where every person passing through GT Road would definitely stop. After the completion of the martyr memorial work, Ambala Cantonment will become a tourist centre where tourists not only from the country but from all over the world will come to visit here. Apart from the martyr memorial, a science museum is also being built near it.
