  • Chandigarh, May 5 – Haryana Government has issued guidelines with regard to distribution of Tocilizumab injection to individual COVID patient in public or private health institutions on clinically approved evidence as per which all the COVID Hospitals requiring Tocilizumab for treatment of COVID-19 patients shall apply to the expert Committee constituted to deicide its distribution on e-mail toci.haryana@gmail.com.
  • Sharing information in this regard, an official spokesperson said that as per the guidelines no doctor or hospital shall issue prescription for Tocilizumab for purchase of the same from anywhere, as distribution of drug is controlled by Government. The application shall be as per Proforma and application without filled Proforma or incomplete Proforma will not be entertained. He elaborated that the Technical Committee will meet twice everyday at 10/11 am in the morning and 4/5 pm in the evening through virtual or digital platform. The spokesperson said that the Director Health Services (DHS), MSD will convene the meeting and coordinate with technical committee and facilitate the rapid decision making as time is of essence; and also monitor overall management of the drug from approval till delivery to the concerned hospital. All applications received will be scrutinized. Furthermore, the decision of each meeting will be conveyed to all the stakeholders and a copy would be displayed at the website of the Health Department. The spokesperson further added that the approved applicant hospital shall deposit the charges for the injection to the concerned Civil Surgeon. In case of refusal the reasons for refusal will be written and informed to the requisitioning hospitals/physicians. Besides this, DHS (MSD) will maintain all the record.
  • Sharing information the spokesperson said that all the Civil Surgeons will ensure the issuance of drug on same day and the store will remain open 24*7. On the drug distribution, the spokesperson specified that the DHS (MSD) in coordination with HMSCL will ensure drug distribution in future as well after approval of Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department. Also, the concerned hospital will submit report regarding usage of drug for the approved patient only, he added.
  • Speaking on appropriate use of the injection, the spokesperson said that it shall be the personal responsibility of the hospital administrator of the institutes requisitioning Tocilizumab to ensure appropriate use of prescription medicine, coordination with health authorities and to keep proper record so that they are available for audit purpose later. If the injection Tocilizumab is issued and the patient dies, then the concerned hospital shall reimburse the amount to the patient and keep the drug in stock for use if approved in future, he added.
