Haryana Government while reiterating its commitment for giving various benefits to the state players has now decided to extend these benefits to the sportspersons

Haryana amends Policy for Grant of cash awards Scheme given to players

Now cash awards and gradation certificates given to players not to be limited by weight category

Cabinet grants approval for the same

Chandigarh, April 5: Haryana Government while reiterating its commitment for giving various benefits to the state players has now decided to extend these benefits to the sportspersons playing in various sports like boxing, wrestling, weight lifting etc, irrespective of their weight category. The decision will greatly benefit the players in terms of getting jobs, gradation certificates, cash awards, honorarium and scholarships given to sportspersons as per the State Policy.

State Cabinet which met under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal here today accorded approval to a proposal regarding amendment in the policy of grant of cash awards to players issued on September 5, 2019. As per the said amendment ‘Event’ may be defined as ‘Several disciplines of one sport not limited to weight category’ has been added in the para II of the above said policy.

The departmental policies and rules governing these incentives dictated that to become eligible to avail these benefits, the ‘Event’ played by the sportsperson must be included in Olympic Games or Asian Games or Commonwealth Games.

For instance, Wrestling has been played in total of 10 weight categories in the World Championship, Asian Championship, Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Championship, National Games and National Championship, whereas only six weight categories are played in Olympics Games and Asian Games, Similarly, Boxing (Men) has also been played in total 10 weight categories in World Championship, Asian Games, Asian Championship.

A sportsperson is not at fault if his weight category is not included in the Olympics, Asian or Commonwealth Games, It is technically also very difficult (and in some instances almost impossible for a player to change his weight category and start afresh. Therefore the said amendment has been made.

Haryana is known for giving the highest incentives to its sportspersons in the Nation. Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Haryana is giving Jobs, Gradation Certificates, Cash Awards, Honorarium and Scholarships to sportspersons on the basis of their sports achievements.
