Chandigarh, April 10 – Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister, Sh. Anil Vij, who also holds the charge of Food and Drug Administration Department, said that the FDA team has busted a factory manufacturing counterfeit products of multinational companies in Faridabad and succeeded in arresting two persons. On the other hand, the FDA team in Sonipat has also caught the work being run without a license.
Illegal counterfeit production of many products of multinational company Hindustan Unilever Limited, namely brands like ‘Lakme’ and ‘Fitme’ etc.
Sh. Vij said that the Haryana Food and Drug Administration Department had received secret information that a factory was manufacturing cosmetics (beauty cosmetics) without license was running in Faridabad. The commissioner of the department, Bazir Singh Goyat, constituted a team, which included Karan Godara, SDCO and Sandeep Gehulan, DCO. The team raided the spot and during the search found that many products of multinational company Hindustan Unilever Limited’s brands like ‘Lakme’ and ‘Fitme’ etc. were being illegally manufactured.
He said that the FDA team called the police on the spot and later the representative of Hindustan Unilever Company was called for identification. On this occasion the representative of the company confirmed that the products being manufactured here were fake and illegal. The factory owner is not authorized to manufacture these, he added.
Team took samples of cosmetics of ready-made products ‘Lakme’ and ‘Fitme’ brands for testing
The Health Minister said that among the ready-made products present during the search, samples of 16 cosmetics of brands ‘Lakme’ and ‘Fitme’ were taken for testing and the team has also seized 16 other types of products. Apart from this, empty bottles, cartons, tubes, etc. bearing labels of Hindustan Unilever Limited and Arrow Pharma Silvasa Company were recovered. It was with the fake cosmetics were made.
Products taken in possession worth Rs 20 lakhs, raw material worth Rs. 30 lakh recovered
He said that with the help of the products seized by the FDA and the police team, the value of about Rs. 20 lakh and products worth Rs 30 lakh can be made from the empty bottles, tubes, labels, etc. recovered by the team. The samples are being sent by the department for testing.
FIR registered in Faridabad, a partner of the factory Amit Mittal and manager Naveen Kumar were arrested
On this occasion, an FIR was registered at Adarshnagar police station, Faridabad and a partner of the factory Amit Mittal and manager Naveen Kumar have been arrested. This fake factory was being run by two brothers Amit Mital and Vipul Mittal. During investigation it was found that he has a firm in the name of Mittal Cosmetics in shop number Sadar Bazar, Delhi, through which counterfeit products made in Faridabad were sold. State Drug Controller of Haryana FDA, Sh. Manmohan Taneja has given this information to the Drugs Department of Delhi State and General Drug Controller, Government of India, New Delhi for further action.
Raid on chemical firm being run without license in Sonipat
He said that on the other hand, in another raid, the team of FDA of Haryana has succeeded in catching Prasha Chemicals, Badhi, HSIIDC, Sonepat while making sodium hypochlorite solution without obtaining poison license. The team was led by Rakesh Dahiya SDCO, Sonepat and Sandeep Hooda, DCO was also present on the occasion.
It is noteworthy that Sodium Hypochlorite is notified as a poison under the Haryana Poison Rules. He said that the team has recovered 40 thousand liters of the product and samples have been taken for testing. A case will be registered against the firm under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940, and Rules 1945.
Health Minister Anil Vij’s appeal to the people
Appealing to the people of Haryana, Health Minister, Sh. Vij said that they should buy medicines, cosmetics products and food items only after taking proper purchase bill. He said that there are two advantages of taking the bill, one is that usually the counterfeit goods are not given to the bill taker and even if it is given, the shopkeeper cannot retract and get the goods from him is ensured.
