Chandigarh, Dec 10 – Haryana Police’s one month-long cycle rally ‘Jagriti Yatra’ culminated today in Panchkula in the august presence of the Director General of Police (DGP), Haryana Sh. P.K. Agrawal.
The DGP appreciated the dedication and passion shown by the team of 16 Women Police cyclists in successfully covering about 1400 Kms of distance and added that this is the first time when our women police taken up this hard task and covered all the districts to make the women, especially from the rural regions aware about their rights and role of various agencies in crime against women cases.
“Our primary objective behind ‘Jagriti Yatra’ was to empower women across the state by making them aware about the need for reporting crime against women cases. Undoubtedly, the efforts of our dedicated Police Women cyclists will shine bright in bringing about a revolutionary change relating to women safety and empowerment,” Sh. Agrawal added.
He also informed that a proposal to start such kind of all women squad cycle yatra was initiated by the then ADGP Women Safety Smt. Kala Ramchandran. She was of the opinion that such cycle yatra should be carried out in the entire state. Today this cycle rally is concluded here but this is the beginning of such a campaign towards women safety. Haryana Police will also take many such initiatives in coming times, he added.
The DGP also honoured all the Jagrati Yatra participants with a commendation certificate and cash prize.
Over 7000 women and girls took part in the social awareness events organized across 23 Police districts to make women aware about their rights, crime prevention tips and role of various agencies. Both rural and urban regions of Haryana were covered in ‘Jagriti Yatra’ expedition’s social awareness events.
In spite of adverse weather conditions, 16 Police Women cyclists achieved a milestone of covering a distance of 1400 Kms in their cycling route while heading towards the Police districts in Haryana. These cyclists not only displayed their passion for proactively conducting an activity, but they have also set an example for other women to be empowered and realize their capabilities.
With the slogan “Jagruk Naari, Shakti Humari”, Haryana Police aims at sensitizing the people regarding the need for awareness amongst women about their rights and aid facilities available to them. We also believe that empowered women contribute a major part in laying down the foundation of a strong nation.
