Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech and Hearing Impairment given grant of Rs 7 crore

Work of the society will be reviewed every three years- Chief Secretary

Chandigarh, January 31- Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech and Hearing Impairment has been sanctioned a grant of Rs.7.2 crore for the year 2021-22 in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal.

The Chief Secretary directed the officers that after every three years, the work of the society should be reviewed, after that, in view of their functioning and according to the new initiatives taken by the society, their grant amount can be increased.

It was informed in the meeting that for the teachers working under the society, grant money is given by the Education Department, while for the other maintenance staff salaries etc. and for the facilities provided to the children living in the centres of the society, the grant amount is provided by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department. The Chief Secretary directed that to facilitate this process, a scheme should be prepared by merging these two schemes in future and the grant amount should be released by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department.

The grant amounting to Rs 7.2 crore approved in the meeting for the year 2021-22 includes Rs 1.5 crore by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Rs 5.30 crore by the Elementary Education Department and Rs 40 lakh by the Health Department. In the meeting, approval was also given by the society to make sound proof room in one centre and after its smooth implementation this work will be done in other centres as well.

It was informed in the meeting that Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech and Hearing Impairment has been established with a view to provide education, vocational training, counselling, guidance and remedial services to the hearing impaired children and for their all round development and making them self-reliant and to facilitate rehabilitation. The Society has been working continuously with the State Government, District Administration, CSR partners and local communities. The Haryana Governor is the president of this Society and the Chief Minister is its Vice-President.

It was informed in the meeting that the society has set up eight wellness centres at Gurugram, Hisar, Sirsa, Karnal, Sonepat, Nagina (Mewat), Raipur Rani and Panchkula. The facilities/services provided at these centres are available to all hearing impaired children.

Principal Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment, Sh. Vineet Garg, and Director, Social Justice and Empowerment, Sh. Rajnarayan Kaushik were present in the meeting. Apart from this, Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Sh. Rajeev Arora, Additional Chief Secretary, School Education Department, Dr. Mahavir Singh and officials of Haryana Welfare Society for Persons with Speech and Hearing Impairment attended the meeting through video conferencing.
