- Chandigarh, April 4: Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal has today announced a bonanza of welfare schemes in the interest of sanitation workers. Now the monthly salary of sanitation workers working in rural areas has been increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 14,000 per month and monthly salary of sanitation workers working in urban areas has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 16,000 per month. Instead of getting monthly salary of Rs. 10.000, the Sewerage Man will now get Rs 12,000 per month. While ensuring salaries on time without any delay, the Chief Minister said that in case of delay in salary, the salary of sanitary workers will be paid from the amount of Rs. 1 crore that has been provided to the Deputy Commissioner. He said that even then if there is a delay in the payment of salaries due to some reason then they will get an additional compensation of Rs 500 along with the salary of next month. Besides this, there will be no diversion of budget allocated by the Finance Department for the salaries of Sanitary Workers.
- The Chief Minister made these announcements at ‘Safai Mitra Utthan Sammelan’ in Karnal on Sunday.
- He said that high risk conditions prevail in sewage cleaning works. For the protection of sanitary workers, a new technology has been introduced in Rewari and Gurugram in the State. Under the new arrangements, all sewage main holes will be connected to sensors. Incase of overflow in sewage main hole, there will be an alert in the concerned office and cleaning will be done by machines.
- He said that an insurance compensation of Rs 10 lakh is provided to the family of the workers engaged in sewage cleaning. Upon the death of the workers engaged in works other than sewage cleaning, a benefit of Rs. 5 lakh will be provided under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Suraksha Bima Yojana while a sum of Rs 2 lakh will be provided after natural death of the worker.
- The Chief Minister announced that according to the rules, the benefit of the Ex-gratia is provided to regular employees. In future, this benefit will be provided to all on-roll sanitary workers. Sanitary worker having annual income of upto Rs 1.80 lakh will be able to take a collateral free loan for education of their children and if a person is not able to pay such loan, then it will be compensated by the State Government. Training will be provided for the job of sewer man and only those who have obtained a certificate for the same will be allowed for sewage cleaning works. The Chief Minister said that he will look into the demands given by Chairman of ‘Haryana Safai Karmchari Ayog, Er. Krishan Kumar.
- The Chief Minister announced that in the future, priority would be given to senior sanitation workers engaged on contract basis working for 10-15 years to give contract for the salary of the sanitation workers.
- Sh. Manohar Lal said that the work of making Parivar Pechan Patra (PPP) is under progress in the State. The sanitary workers who didn’t get their PPP issued can get it prepared soon to get the benefits of welfare schemes. The benefit of all the welfare schemes is linked to PPP. For this, the work of verifying self-declared annual income is under progress. The data that will be collected will be used to make provisions to help increase the income of families with income of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1 lakh and then to Rs. 1.80 lakh by providing suitable employment opportunities. All the families having annual income below Rs. 1.80 lakh will be identified under the category of BPL.
- He said that the State Government is making efforts to implement the principles of Antyodaya in the state. Expressing concern over the growing cases of COVID-19 he said that everyone should follow the prescribed guidelines of COVID-19 to contain the spread of this disease.

- During the programme, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He inaugurated the Community Centre constructed at a cost of Rs 3.55 crore by Municipal Corporation in Phoosgarh. Besides this, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Dwaar built on the Karnal-Meerut National Highway. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 63.12 lakh.

- Haryana Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister, Dr. Banwari Lal said that Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal takes special care of the needy. He is always concerned about their health care facilities and education. For ensuring these facilities he utilized IT so that these families do not have to visit offices time and again. All types of facilities are now made available online by the Government. He said that Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal has constituted Haryana State Commission for Safai Karamchari for the first time so that the standard of living of the Safai Karamchari is uplifted. Now all the issues of Safai Karamcharis are resolved through the commission. He said that during the tenure of the previous State Government, there were no special benefits provided to sewerage workers who lost their life during this work, but now the Haryana Government provides a benefit of Rs. 10 lakh. Haryana Government has given a benefit of Rs. 10 Lakh to the families of all those deceased sewer men from 1993 to 2008.
- On this occasion, MLA, Sh. Jagdish Nayar thanked the Chief Minister for increasing legal aid given to people belonging to Scheduled Castes from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 21,000. He also thanked the Chief Minister for increasing financial Assitance being given under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Awas Navinikarn Yojana from Rs. 51,000 to Rs. 80,000.
- During the programme, the organizers honoured the Chief Minister Sh. Manohar Lal, Co-operation Minister, Dr. Banwari Lal, MLA’s Sh. Harvinder Kalyan, Sh. Ramkumar Kashyap, Sh. Dharampal Gonder, Sh. Jagdish Nayar, Sh. Nayan Pal Rawat, Mayor, Smt. Renu Bala Gupta and other dignitaries by presenting shawls and mementos to them.
