Chandigarh, February 27 – The National Immunization (NID) round of Pulse Polio 2020-21 has been started today on February 27,  2022  in all districts of the State in which booth activity is undertaken on the first day in order to maintain the polio free status of the State. In view of the present scenario of Covid-19 pandemic all health officials and front line workers are working with full precaution like use of personal protective equipment, Mask, sanitizer, gloves etc. Teams are following the hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene & social distancing measures.

Giving information in this regard, an official spokesperson said that in most of the districts, booths have been inaugurated by eminent personalities including Ministers/MLAs/ Deputy Commissioners/ Municipal Councillors/ Civil Surgeon or other senior officers. MP, Sh. Krishan Pal Gurjar and MP, Sh. Ramesh Kaushik, inaugurated the NID round in district Palwal and Sonepat respectively. Haryana Transport Minister, Sh. Mool Chand Sharma, inaugurated the round in district Faridabad

He added that MLA Palwal, Sh. Deepak Mangla, MLA Gurgaon, Sh. Sudhir Singla & MLA, Sohna Sh. Sanjay Singh, MLA Kurukshetra, Sh. Subash Sudha, MLA Sonipat, MLA Bhiwani, Ghanshyam Saraf and MLA Rewari have inaugurated the NID rounds in their respective districts.

He further elaborated that approximately 36 lakh children are to be covered during this campaign in the state. This campaign will continue for another two days by way of House-to-House activity. On the 1st day of activity, approximately 20 lakh (55%) children under 5 years of age have been administered polio drops. In order to carry out this campaign, around 30,000 health teams comprising  health workers/ volunteers / Anganwari Workers/ASHA workers etc have been constituted. Approximate 1500 mobile teams will be working during the activity to cover all children in underserved and poorly approachable areas like brick kilns, construction sites, poultry farms, slums etc. About 5000 field supervisors and district level officers supervised the activity in all districts apart from Independent Monitors of NPSP-WHO. 12 state observers from NHM office have been deployed to monitor the campaign. This activity was preceded by undertaking an awareness campaign through print media, miking, and other IEC activities.

The remaining children who were unable to receive polio drops during the booth activity on 27th February will be administered polio vaccine drops on 28th & 1st March 2022 through visit of door-to-door teams and through mobile teams in high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating/ migrating population & construction sites.
The spokesperson further informed that it is important to know that due to consistent hard work of all stakeholder departments, India and Haryana are polio free since 2012 and with every successive round of NID/ SNID it is ensured that Polio free status of India is sustained. Active participation is solicited from General public also.
