Efforts of Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation proves effective in making weavers and artisans independent
Himachal Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation Ltd. is rapidly moving forwarded towards Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Corporation is implementing several projects in the State through which thousands of weavers and artisans were being imparted training to make them independent.
Sanjeev Katwal Vice Chairman State Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation Ltd. informed here today that the Corporation was implementing about 26 schemes in the state under which more than two thousand people were imparted training of various trades. About nine hundred training centers were being operated in the State and hundred training centers were being executed in rural areas.
He said that special efforts were being made by the Corporation to impart training to weavers and artisans in making Chamba rumal, mufflers, gloves, caps and Kangra painting, etc.
Sanjeev Katwal said that recently a training camp was organised in Totu of district Shimla in which training was provided on hand weaving. About 20 women were trained in this camp, who were given daily payment of Rs. 300 per day. In this way during the training period each women earned Rs. 14,400 along with the training.
He said that under the able leadership of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur State Handicraft and Handloom Corporation was progressing towards new heights of development and the State Government has taken several initiatives to ensure overall development of the sector.
He said that State Government is committed to protect the rights of weavers and artisans and besides imparting training was also being provided assistance to promote the handicrafts that were on the verge of extinction. Marketing facility was also being provided to promote the weavers and artisans.
