Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that war memorials should be constructed in every district in the memory of the brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice for the country so that the future generation could get inspiration from them and we can also express our gratitude towards them.
The Governor was speaking as the Chief Guest during the War Martyrs Memorial program in Bilaspur today. He said that today the people of the State have honoured the martyrs and they were fortunate that this work has been performed by them. He said that our brave soldiers were protecting our borders and performing their duties with dedication at all times, due to which such programmes were completed. He expressed his gratitude towards the soldiers.
Shri Arlekar said that it was our duty to dedicate memorials in the memory of the martyrs who made their supreme sacrifice towards the nation. Expressing satisfaction, he said that the members associated with the campaign have given shape to this idea and they all deserved appreciation. He said that there was a need to learn from the people who were dedicated and working for the society.
The Governor honored the martyr families on the occasion. He also honoured the members of the campaign team of ‘Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam’.
While presiding over the function, Kismat Kumar welcomed the Governor and said that today was a very important day, as on this day in 1919, the British carried out the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh in Punjab and more than thousand people sacrificed their life for the sake of Nation. Today is the day to remember those revolutionaries. He said that ‘Ek Eint Shaheed ke Naam’ campaign was connected with our sentiments and was dedicated to the martyrs.
Sanjeev Rana, Convenor of the campaign ‘Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam’ welcomed the Governor and gave detailed information about the war memorial.
Subedar Major Prem Singh, Prant Sanyojak of the campaign ‘Ek Eint Shaheed Ke Naam’ presented a vote of thanks.
Earlier, the Governor unveiled the Bharat Mata Statue and inaugurated the War Memorial. The Governor unfurled the 147 feet high national flag installed here.
Rajender Garg, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Subhash Thakur MLA, Bilaspur Sadar and Jeet Ram Katwal, MLA Jhandutta, Kumari Muskan, President, Zilla Parishad, Trilok Jamwal, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Pankaj Rai, Deputy Commissioner, Bilaspur, S.R. Rana, Superintendent of Police, Martyr’s family members, ex-servicemen and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
