Navdharna campaign will go a long way in skill development of specially- abled: Dr. Markanda
Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Niagam (HPKVN) is implementing a special campaign called as Navdharna for skill development of specially-abled people of the state. The employment oriented training in the tourism and hospitality and retail sectors would be provided to the specially- abled under this programme.
Technical Education Minister Ram Lal Markanda informed this while presiding over a workshop organized here today. He said that it was our social responsibility to empower people with disabilities by providing them ample opportunities for skill training. He said HPKVN was giving special impetus in providing skill trainings to the specially-abled. In order to provide employment and self-employment opportunities to them, the Nigam was making all efforts to provide training under Navdharna programme which was announced by the Chief Minister in his 2019-20 budget speech.
Dr. Markanda said the HPKVN would be providing training to 300 silent or speech/hearing impaired, locomotor challenged and acid attack victims of the state in the areas of retail and tourism and hospitality under this programme. They would get free training along-with residential facility and those completing the training successfully would be given nationally recognized ‘Skill India’ certificate.
The representatives of renowned industries participated in this workshop and discussions were also held to provide employment opportunities to the specially-abled. The officers of the National Handicapped Financing and Development Corporation (NFHDC) informed about the opportunities available for financial assistance of the specially-abled.
Managing Director, HPKVN Rohan Chand Thakur detailed about the training programmes of the Corporation. The representatives of various industries and Self Help Groups also participated in this workshop.
